Art

Mrs Hannis

Our Art Curriculum aims to; Engage, Inspire, and Challenge.

As pupils progress through the school they learn about colour, pattern, texture, line, shape, form and space.  Our progressive skills based curriculum ensures pupils are given opportunities to explore and experiment with a wide range of media and materials.  Across the Key Stages pupils are taught a wide range of skills and techniques which ensures they become proficient in drawing, painting, sculpture and a variety of art and craft techniques.

During practical and art appreciation lessons (exploring past and present, local and international artists and a variety of cultures), activities week, and visits from local artists, crafters and designers our pupils are encouraged to develop an appreciation of art. They learn to critically evaluate and analyse their own work and that of peers and artists.

Our topic based curriculum explores cross curricular links where possible.  Class and school art events, such as the dance festival, music theatre performances, links with Royal Shakespeare Company and school performances  ensure our pupils enjoy a dynamic ‘arts’ curriculum.  Such experiences endeavour to foster a lifelong love of the arts within our pupils.

We are very proud of our work which is displayed around school, in the gallery, in our sketch books and in records of achievement portfolios.  Please feel free to come in for a look around!

If you have some time to spare and a skill you would like to share with our children we would love to hear from you!
